Reunion 3.5 — June 4 2022!

We’re thrilled to announce that our 35th reunion is scheduled! The class reunion will be on June 4, 2022 from 6pm to 10pm OUTDOORS at the Harlem Tavern (we will have half the courtyard for our group). Tickets will be $25 and come with three prepaid drink tickets (including tip). Drinks include domestic beer, well drinks, and non-alcoholic drinks. Anyone interested in food and/or additional drinks can order it on their own tab. Free tickets will also be available to those that contact the committee (no explanation needed — just email to claim a free ticket).

Our first ask: If you are in contact with alums who aren’t on the AA mailing list or part of the HCHS 87 Facebook group, please let them know about the plans and ask them to contact one of the committee members (reunion@hchs87.org reaches everyone). We will have updated info in the Facebook group and also here on the hchs87.org site.

June 4 is also the multi-class reunion at HCHS, which is currently planned for a virtual-only event in the afternoon, although it may switch over to an in-person event depending on circumstances.

We’re also planning a kid-friendly picnic for Sunday morning; more info on the picnic coming soon. If anyone would like to help organize that event please contact us.

If you’d like to reserve one or more gratis tickets, please email reunion@hchs87.org. (At past reunions, not all free tickets were used, so please don’t hesitate to put your name on the list.)

We need to receive your payment or have you claim your ticket by May 21. If we sell out before that date, we will notify the class.

You can pay via Venmo to our reunion treasurer, Mike Rose (@MikeTRose) — email reunion@hchs87.org for other payment options. The tickets are $25 but you can donate more if you like. and any funds over the ticket price will go to our class gift (but note that if you want to make a tax-deductible contribution to the Class of ’87 Gift before the end of the year, the HCHSAA’s website and mailbox are open).

When you pay, please include your name and email address and number of tickets as a note so we can confirm receipt and add you to our event mailing list. Please email us at reunion@hchs87.org if you have any questions.

If you are in touch with classmates who are not on the AA mailing list or in this group, please forward this information to them.

Thanks! We can’t wait to see you in June!

Reunion 2022 is coming…

Hard to believe — but we are only a month away (give or take) from the reunion! As you probably have heard from the HCHSAA, the all-class reunion is planned to be back in person at the high school this year, starting at 9 am. Those who are attending the all-class event can join classmates for breakfast or lunch in the courtyard, and we hope to see many of you at our reunion reception on Saturday evening and/or the picnic on Sunday afternoon. Please email reunion@hchs87.org with any questions or concerns.

Reunion Reception 6pm Saturday @ Harlem Tavern

As a reminder, our reception will be held at Harlem Tavern, 2153 Frederick Douglass Blvd (upstairs from the 116th St stop on the B/C trains). Your $25 reservation includes three prepaid drink tickets (food & additional drinks is at your discretion). If you need a complimentary ticket just email us at the address above. You must reserve no later than May 21, although we may fill up sooner!

Sunday Picnic

Traditionally, the class has met up for a post-party picnic on Sunday at the hill just north of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Central Park — which is suitable for families with young kids or anyone who wants to spend time outside. We would love a volunteer to coordinate time and location for this bonus event! Please email the reunion committee or pipe up in the class Facebook group if interested.

Milestone Class Gift

Every year, the Milestone Classes set a target fundraising goal to support the school and its students. Especially over the past couple of years, the tireless work of teachers, staff and administrators to educate and engage Hunter students shows what amazing educators can accomplish even in the most challenging of circumstances. Likewise, the dedication and excellence of today’s student body is unparalleled in NYC or anywhere in the country… which means that your support through the HCHSAA is an incredible way to have an impact on an institution that nurtured us and continues to nurture amazing young people today.

Contributions made through the HCHSAA provide resources to numerous student programs. Alumnae/i donations support theater productions, clubs, computer labs, new Phys. Ed. equipment, transportation, and faculty grants. Whether we were aware of it or not, the Hunter experience we all fondly remember was enriched by contributions from our generous alumnae/i.

You may send a check to the Alumnae/i Association at 695 Park Avenue, Hunter College East, Room 1313B, New York, NY 10065-5024; donate over the phone at (212) 772-4079; or visit https://www.hchsaa.org/reunion/class-gift to donate online. If you would prefer to combine your donation and your reception payment, you can Venmo both to ’87 reunion treasurer Mike Rose @MikeTRose — however that won’t get you a letter for your tax return, sorry!

Please let us know if you have any questions at all! We hope you’ll join us in giving back to Hunter in this way, and we look forward to celebrating with our fellow alumni.

With regards,

Take the Class of ’87 Survey!

Twenty-five years is a long time; even though many of us have been in touch more or less frequently since graduation (whether by traditional means or by Facebook), there’s a lot we don’t know about where we’ve been and what we’re up to now.

Please take a few minutes to fill out our alumni survey, with as much (or as little) detail as you like. Your contact information will be kept under wraps, and we’ll hold onto the full results until the reunion — unless there’s overwhelming demand to publish (securely and privately) sooner.

The survey link is here. Enjoy!

As requested by MAB, here are the non-routine questions (to allow further mulling time):

Your life since ’87, in as much detail as you choose

Where do you live now?

Married, life partnered, etc.?

Partner/Spouse’s name?

Kids, pets, ages

Profession, and some detail on what you do

Education

Hobbies

Best memory of HCHS

Favorite HCHS teacher

Worst thing about HCHS

“Did you hear about…” another HCHS student? Dish!

What are you focused on right now?

What would you like to tell your classmates

Offers & requests for professional networking?

Birthday

Anniversary
